About Rotationals

What we want to accomplish

We want to

  • Keep Kiwi car culture alive and thriving, and inspire future generations of car enthusiasts
  • Showcase New Zealand’s incredible car culture to the rest of the world, helping people show off the passion and hard work they put into their cars
  • Give car enthusiasts ways to participate in the community, meet new people, and enjoy themselves.

Whether we accomplish this by organising memorable events for enthusiasts to attend, bringing the community together to fundraise for a great cause, documenting creative builds using our photo and video skills, or even running social quiz nights – the general idea is that whatever we do, we leave a positive mark on our community.

Who is Rotationals?

Rotationals is a two man duo. Not a team, just us two lads! This is why we greatly appreciate any help, volunteers, or advice – we work extremely hard, and we’re out here doing it on our own!

Long Term Goal

Our eventual goal is to do this full time ourselves, with the resources to have a great team around us.

The way we can see that happening is by gradually building up a shop of various products here in NZ, and using our events and content to help bring customers to our shop.

Once we have that humming, then we can ramp up our events and content to be even better, more fun, and more ambitious.

If you’d like to help us on our mission

Maybe you’d like to help us out by volunteering at an event, or maybe you know of a good sponsorship opportunity or mentor to chat to. Whatever it is, we appreciate help of all kinds, and always love chatting with people who enjoy what we put out!

Our Story

We met on the first day of uni in 2017, and immediately became good mates – spending most of orientation day talking about cars; what we have, what we want, and other innocent car banter.

2017 – 2018

A semester in, inspired by people like Richard Opie, @TT.Media, @dominic.nz and others, we started a photography page on Instagram – just wanting to be involved in the community, and shoot some cool cars.

We stuck with it for long enough to gain a reasonable audience, and before we knew it, we were starting to host car meets

2019 – 2021

Our first meet had about 20 cars turn up, but we kept trying – even collaborating with other people in a similar position as us, like JDM NZ and OsakaNights.

Because our events were well organised, well behaved, and had a positive atmosphere, they kept growing and growing steadily.

Also, because we love all kinds of cars, we managed to cultivate a great mix of JDM, Euro, and US machinery. Mostly from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, but older cars often show up too.

2022 – 2023

By 2022, after about 20 meets, we were consistently bringing over 600 cars to our events. Our Rotationals x Repco: I Am Hope Meet of 2023, at Mt Smart Stadium brought in well over 800 cars, and at least 4,000 people – with more cars parked outside due to the venue being full.

What are we doing now?

Now, we’re getting through a slightly awkward stage of growth, where we’re fine tuning the balance of hosting a large, engaging event, with the crazy costs of venues, insurance, labour, etc.

We’re experimenting a lot, with smaller events, and different types of events.

Our next large event however will be our latest Rotationals x Repco: I Am Hope Drag Festival 2024 fundraiser event – this time at NAPA Auto Parts Dragway, Meremere on May the 26th.

Stay tuned for more updates on that, as we develop it further! It’s going to be massive!
